We will be preparing a couple of areas for planting on Green Seattle Day (Nov 1st). Sue Brimhall (firstname.lastname@example.org) will be leading the work party. Sue recently completed a training for GSP forest stewards and is an experienced volunteer.
Sue is also a great fungus spotter! She found what is probably a Phaeolus schwintzii (velvet topped fungus) in a wooded area of Lincoln. It's near the base of a Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) and is quite large, about 20cm across. See the Wikipedia entry below for information. See Richard Droker's Flickr site (wanderflechten) for some outstanding photos of the fungus. Note how different it looked 8 days ago compared to today.
