Work Party in Action, August 2

Just a few minutes after a surprise early morning thunderstorm, Friends of Lincoln Park volunteers were hard at work removing invasives. They had cleared this area some time ago, but regular maintenance is necessary to keep things like blackberries and ivy from returning.

It is slow, hard work, and lots of patience is required, along with gloves, sturdy shoes, and some protective clothing! But their persistence has paid off. There are very few, if any, places in the forests of Lincoln Park where ivy and blackberries have never been removed.

But it's not just ivy and blackberries. There are many non-native invasive plants that need constant monitoring. One of the nastiest: Stinky Bob! (Geranium robertianum) Many, many thanks to all the hardworking volunteers who have put in countless hours to restore and maintain a healthy forest in Lincoln Park!
