Greetings Friends of Lincoln Park. We've got a work party coming up, maybe we can finish up first time invasive removal in the two areas we've been working in.
- Saturday, Feb 7, 9am to noon
- Meet near the north parking lot kiosk (Fauntleroy Way SW and SW Rose St)
- Dress in NW layers to stay warm and dry, with sturdy shoes or boots
-We have a wonderful UW senior from the Program on the Environment working with us this quarter, Sam Timpe. In addition to doing invasive removal and planting, he's compiling an annotated bibliography on the effects of dogs on natural areas. This comes out of concern that some areas we have placed in restoration are being trampled by too much traffic. Parks is also working with us to find ways to protect these areas.
-Denise Dahn, of the Seattle Nature Alliance has designed a beautiful sign for Lincoln informing people of the importance of protecting the forest floor ("the forest floor is alive"). You may have seen Denise's work at Schmitz Park. SNA is raising funds to produce and place two signs in Lincoln. If you want to donate, go to the SNA web site. SNA is a wonderful advocate and partner for us!
And, finally, a book you might enjoy: "Welcome to Subirdia: Sharing Our Neighborhoods with Wrens, Robins, Woodpeckers, and Other Wildlife" by UW professor John M. Marzluff.
Rain never stops us, but watch for high wind warnings, we cancel if the winds are over 20 mph. Sharon
