Saturday work party, 10/3/15 - and more!

Greetings Friends of Lincoln Park, we've got a work party coming up. We will be working in the area just west of the north ball field, finishing up invasive removal in preparation for our BIG GREEN SEATTLE DAY planting on Nov 7th. On this coming Saturday, we'll also have some plants to put in the ground in that area, left over from our U Mich Alum event last Sunday---Thanks UM grads!
  • Sat, Oct 3, 2015 9am to noon
  • Meet near the north parking lot kiosk (Fauntleroy Way SW and SW Rose St)
  • As always, dress in NW layers to stay warm/cool and dry. Long sleeves and pants suggested for sticker protection. And sturdy shoes or boots.
And I'd also like to let you know about two great Central Puget Sound Washington Native Plant Society events, a fabulous speaker on Oct 1 and an equally fabulous plant sale on Oct 3:

Life Above the Treeline: Plant Adaptations to the Alpine.
With Andy MacKinnon.

Western North America is blessed with abundant areas of alpine. The plants that make their home above tree line are a distinctive and spectacular bunch. It's a difficult place to live, but our alpine plants have evolved ingenious ways of coping with this challenging environment.  Andy will show us adaptations to alpine life, illustrated with British Columbia examples. Andy will be available for book signing after the meeting.
Andy is a Research Ecologist in the Coast Forest Region Research Section of the British Columbia Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations. To almost everyone interested in our native plants, Andy MacKinnon is a well-known name. Andy is co-author of Plants of the Pacific Northwest and more recently, Alpine Plants of the Northwest with Jim Pojar.
 Thursday, October 1st, 2015, 7:30pm,
UW Center for Urban Horticulture, 3501 NE 41st St, Seattle
(Doors Open at 6:30 PM for the Native Plant Identification Workshop; Program begins at 7:30 PM.)

If you are unable to attend the Oct 1st presentation, Dr MacKinnon will also be presenting at Evergreen College on Sept 30 for the South Sound Chapter of WNPS. For details, see wnps.org
