Saturday work party, 3/4/17

Greetings Friends of Lincoln Park, come and enjoy the slow onset of spring with us in Lincoln Park. We will continue to do maintenance, removing invasive plants in areas we've previously placed in restoration. That's our focus this year, to catch up on the backlog of maintenance.
Salmonberry, Feb 21
  • Sat, March 4th 9am to noon
  • Meet near the north parking lot kiosk (Fauntleroy Way SW & SW Rose)
  • Who knows on weather! Dress in NW layers to stay warm and dry
  • If you miss us at 9am, check the map on the kiosk for our work location or call me at 206 464 1068
I wanted to share some sad news. One of our beautiful signs "The Forest Floor is Alive", designed and placed by the Seattle Nature Alliance, was recently defaced. Someone tried to scratch out the suggestion that dogs be kept on leash---wonder who did that! Let's keep the social pressure up for people to keep their dogs on leash in the park in order to protect the forest.

Defacing of donated art in Lincoln Park

Forest floor plants grow by the inch and die by the foot! Especially the clawed feet of dogs running illegally off leash in Lincoln Park. But I suspect some dog walkers do not understand that and, in fact, are defiant about their perceived right to let their dogs run off leash through the forests of Lincoln Park. That was made apparent by the recent defacing of a beautiful educational sign, explaining the delicacy of the forest floor plants.

The sign was designed and placed by volunteers from Seattle Nature Alliance and funded by community donations. As volunteer forest steward at Lincoln Park, leading efforts to restore our forest, I’ve seen firsthand the damage done by dogs running loose in the forest. I’d like to appeal to the majority of dog walkers in the park, who obey the leash laws, to use your influence to encourage off leash scofflaws to behave in a more responsible way.

Thank you!
